3. Tortuguero National Park
Tortuguero National Park is the national pride of Costa Rica. The name of the place “Tortuguero” is translated as “Region of Turtles”. Located in the Northeastern region of Costa Rica along the Caribbean coast, the Tortuguero National Park is a vital nesting place for the endangered green turtles and other sea turtles. The breeding period for the green turtle is from July to October. The hatching season is magnificent to witness.
The rich flora and fauna of the Tortuguero National Park is also something that is worth visiting. Along with the famous green turtles, there are other sea turtles and wildlife that consider the Tortuguero National Park as their home. Some sea turtles that can also be found are the Olive ridley turtle, Hawksbill Turtle and Leatherback turtle to name a few.
When it comes to the flora of the Tortuguero National park, it has a massive array of different species of trees and plants. The mangrove forests are one of the leading wildlife sanctuaries in the country.
Their conservation efforts to protect the Tortuguero National Park has been paramount not only by the government but all the stakeholders and locals.
The Guanacaste region is located in the Northwestern part of Costa Rica, and it shares borders with Nicaragua. It is home to the most beautiful tropical beaches in the country. Due to its location, it is considered as the sunniest place in Costa Rica.
It has the longest dry season, and sometimes it lasts almost the whole year making it popular with the tourists, beach lovers and sun worshipers!
The 200 kilometres long coast of this region has been a favourite surfing hotspot. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, this is one activity that you should not miss in Costa Rica.
There are a few popular surfing areas that are worth checking out in Guanacaste region. These are Tamarindo; then this is the one for you.
Witches Rock, are comprised of 3 kilometres of the shallow sandy bottom. This area is another great spot for surfing. The traditional time to visit this area is from December to March when most of the high waves come!
Playa Negra has been seen in the popular movie – Endless Summer II. This has made it popular with the surfing community. The Playa Junquillal and Playa Avellana are worth visiting; they are both starting to get attraction from tourists because the waves are more for beginners and it is a family friendly area.
