6 Beautiful Norway Landscape For Arctic Inspirations

Are you looking for some Norway landscape inspiration? If you are planning to visit Norway soon, you will be out of words with its natural and ruggedly magnificent landscape. Let me share with you some of the snaps I took during my Arctic expedition cruise in Norway with Hurtigruten.

My Arctic expedition cruise was a once-in-a-lifetime journey, and this converted me to love cruising as an alternative way of travelling the world. The sea and weather were unpredictable during my trip and I experienced different weather in only an hour span. We had rain, snow, hail, sunshine, wind and cloudy it was super crazy.

There were a few evenings during my voyage that I felt seasick, I’m convinced it was because of the waves and not because I had few glasses of wine. These things are surely part of the package when you explore the Arctic region, oh well, explore like a true Norwegian!

On the Arctic cruise expedition, I saw loads of picture-perfect Norway landscapes that will surely inspire you to plan your trip and set out for an excellent adventure. I hope that these photos will do the talking to convince you to visit Norway.

What type of landscape that Norway is famous for?

As a whole, Norway is famous for its majestic mountains, rolling hills and valleys, coastal towns, rocky cliffs and fjords, serene forests and woods, towering waterfalls, large glaciers, islands and thousand of lakes.

Here are some of my photos of various Norway landscapes that will inspire you to explore the Arctic region.

Kirkenes

Kirkenes is located in Finnmark county, the far northeastern part of Norway.  Kirkenes is close enough to say that you are on top of the world. It is only a few kilometres away from the Northern Russian Border and even further up north than Lapland in Finland.

This is indeed a true winter wonderland. Hurtigruten’s fleet docks in Kirkenes to turn around from Northbound to Southbound Voyage.

Tromsø

Tromsø is the capital of Arctic Norway and the gateway city of the Arctic Ocean. Tromsø is also known as the Northern Light city due to its location where it is typical to see the Northern Lights glimmer across the sky.

During the winter months, Tromsø does not get much sunlight; this is what they call the “Polar Night“. The sun will set in mid-November, and the lowest point will be in December (winter solstice), and it won’t rise again above the horizon until the end of January.

Tromsø also has an underground tunnel road system with two round-a-about, which I find amusing.  The underground tunnel serves as a safe alternative route, especially during the winter months.

Stokmarkness

A very special place for Hurtigruten. Stokmarkness is where Mr Richard With founded the shipping company back in 1810. Not far from the port, you can visit the Museum of the Coastal Express (Hurtigruten Museum).

The Fjords of Norway

The charming landscape of the Norwegian fjords will leave you speechless. I can’t find any adjectives to completely describe the beauty of this UNESCO-protected area of Norway.

There are thousands of fjords scattered around Norway, one of the most popular ones is the majestic Trollfjord. One of the ships of Hurtigruten, MS Trollfjord, was named after this fjord. Based on local folklore, Trollfjord is the home of the troll that is in slumber for thousands of years.

Lofoten

Lofoten is an archipelago in the western part of Norway. On my cruise around the Arctic region, I stopped over in Svolvær, the capital of the Lofoten islands.

The fishermen’s cabin will surely capture your heart and leave you awestruck while gazing into the beautiful surroundings. While in Svolvær, don’t forget to visit the fish racks near the coast where you can see thousands of stockfish as far as your eyes can see!

Helgeland Coast

Part of the UNESCO’s World Heritage list, the beauty of Helgeland shouldn’t be missed when you visit Norway. Known for their white sand beaches where you can enjoy kayaking in the fjords during the summer months.

The majestic mountains can also be your playground if you want to go hiking to enjoy the scenic beauty of the area. Helgeland coast is also the home of the famous seven sisters that according to local folklore are the daughters of the King of Sulitjelma and legend has it they turned to stone when the sun shined on them.

Unfortunately on our way to Trondheim, we missed the beauty of the seven sisters due to the erratic weather. Hurtigruten docks on Nesna, Sandnessjøen,and Brønnøsund along Helgeland Coastline.
