Complete List of UK Passport Visa Free Countries to Visit

Getting my UK citizenship and becoming a British passport holder are some of the highlights of my life here in the UK.  Being a British citizen for half-a-decade now, it did open a lot of options and flexibility for me to travel the majority of the countries in the world. 

The British passport is arguably one of the strongest passports in the whole world. How strong, you ask? Strong enough to access 185 countries without the need of a visa prior to the trip.

Enough with the serious talks, though – just be glad you’re holding a strong one right there! Check the maps I have included in this post. I have colour-coded them according to the following:

Visa Free – Teal 

E-Visa –  Golden Yellow

Visa-On- Arrival – Light Purple

European Union State Members – Dark Purple

United Kingdom – Red

Europe

Due to the Free Movement agreement under the European Union, all British nationals are free to visit or live within the EU countries (at least until the Brexit will happen). The non- EU countries in Europe also welcomes British citizens to visit their country. 

I travel around Europe, using my British passport with no hassle at all.  I have listed here all the European countries and the visa-free requirements and conditions for UK citizens.

Note: Once the Brexit arrangement has been finalised, there might be a special e-visa required for the British citizens to travel within the EU countries. 

Albania – 90 days

Andorra – No visa required

Belarus – Visa not required for 30 days visit. Must arrive and leave via Minsk International Airport.  You need to provide sufficient medical insurance cover up to €10,000 and pocket money of €25 per day. This can be in the form of cash, cheque or card. If a British citizen enters Belarus other than Minsk International Airport, a visa is required. 

Bosnia Herzogovinia–  Visa not required for 90 days visit within any 6-month period.

Faroe Island – Visa Free. Freedom of Movement agreement.

Iceland – Visa not required. Freedom of movement agreement.

Kosovo – Visa free for 90 days.

Liechtenstein – Visa not required. Freedom of movement agreement.

Moldova – Visa not required. 90 days within any 180 day period

Monaco – Visa not required.

Montenegro – Visa free for 90 days visit.

North Macedonia – Visa free  for 3 months.

Norway – Visa not required. Freedom of movement agreement.

Russia – Visa required. However, 72-hours visa free visit when entering by cruise ship or regular ferry via port of St. Petersburg, provided that a passenger spends the night on-board or in accommodation specifically approved by the travel agency.

San Marino – Visa not required.

Serbia – Visa free for 90 days visit.

Switzerland – Visa not required. Freedom of movement

Ukraine – Visa not required. 90 days within any 180 day period

Asia

​​Occupying around 30% of the world’s land mass, undeniably that Asia is considered as the largest continent. Using the British passport when travelling around Asia, some countries would require a visa, e-visa or sometimes a special permit.

Here are the list of the countries in Asia and their visa-free stay duration for British tourists:

Armenia – Visa not required 180 days. 

Azerbaijan – eVisa required. 30 days visit and single entry only.

Bahrain – eVisa / Visa on arrival. From 24 hours up to 3 months visas can be issued on arrival for a stay up to 3 months. Depending on the British travellers need. eVisa issued for 14 days, extendable once.

Bangladesh – Visa on arrival for 30 days for tourism purposes. Visa on arrival available at Dhaka International Airport. 

Brunei – Visa not required for 90 days visit. 

Cambodia – eVisa / Visa on arrival for 30 days visit. Make sure to have a passport photo at hand and money for your visa fees.  Last time I travelled to Cambodia it was $90USD. You can also get an E-visa before you travel. 

China –  Visa required. However, 72-hour visit without a visa when in transit at Changsha, Chengdu, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Guilin, Harbin, Kunming, Qingdao, Wuhan, Xi’an and Xiamen. 144-hours visit without a visa when in transit through Beijing Capital International Airport, Dalian, Hangzhou, Shijiazhuang Zhengding International Airport in Hebei, Nanjing, Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport, Shanghai Railway Station and the Port of Shanghai); Shenyang and Tianjin Binhai International Airport Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan do count as third countries under the 72 and 144-hours visa-free visit transit policy. Visiting visas issued to British citizens are generally valid for 2 years. 

Georgia –  Visa not required for 1 year visit. 

India – e-Visa for 1 year tourism purposes. E-Visa holders must arrive via 26 designated airports or 3 designated seaports. You must have a “full British passport” and will meet the criteria. An Indian e-Tourist Visa can only be obtained twice in one calendar year.

Indonesia – Visa not required for 30 days visit. 

Israel – Visa not required for 3 months visit.

Japan – Visa not required for 90 days. 

Jordan – Free visa on arrival. You have to remember to pay the exit tax when crossing borders except for the airports. If you wish to visit Israel and Palestine occupied territories better to secure a multiple entry visa.

Kazakhstan – Visa not required 30 days visit. 

Kuwait – eVisa / Visa on arrival for 3 months visit. 

Kyrgyzstan – Visa not required for 60 days visit.

Laos – eVisa / Visa on arrival for 30 days visit.

Lebanon – Visa on arrival for 1 month visit. 

Malaysia – Visa not required for 3 months visit.

Maldives – Free visa on arrival for 30 days visit.

Myanmar (formerly Burma) – eVisa for 28 days visit. eVisa holders must arrive via Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw or Mandalay airports or via land border crossings with Thailand — Tachileik, Myawaddy and Kawthaung or India — Rih Khaw Dar and Tamu. eVisa available for both tourism (allowed stay is 28 days) or business purposes (allowed stay is 70 days).

Nepal – Visa on arrival for 90 days visit. 

Oman – eVisa for 30 days visit.

Palestine – Visa not required. Arrival by the sea in Gaza Strip is not allowed.

Philippines – Visa not required for 30 days visit.

Qatar – Visa not required for 30 days visit.

Russia – Visa required. However, 72-hours visa free visit when entering by regular ferry via port of St. Petersburg, provided that a passenger spends the night on-board or in accommodation specifically approved by the travel agency.

Singapore – Visa not required for 90 days visit.

South Korea – Visa not required for 90 days visit.

Sri Lanka – eVisa / Visa on arrival for 30 days visit. 

Taiwan – Visa not required for 90 days visit.

Tajikistan – eVisa for 45 days visit.

Thailand – Visa not required for 30 days. If not arriving by air, British citizens are only permitted two visits per year.

Timor-Leste – Visa on arrival for 30 days visit. Visa on arrival is only available at the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport or at the Dili Sea Port.

United Arab Emirates (UAE) – Free visa on arrival for 30 days visit. Issued free of charge.

Uzbekistan – Visa not required for 30 days visit.

Vietnam – Visa not required for 15 days visit. A single entry eVisa valid for 30 days is also available. Visa exemption extended until June 2021.

Africa

The Motherland! Africa is definitely in close to British’s heart with endless charitable community projects from the British Royal Family and other UK organisations. 

The desire for an adventure won’t skip the British travellers venture on the wild safaris of Africa, rugged wildlife and nature. Moreover, immerse themselves to the rich tribal community. 

Here are the list of visa-free countries in Africa for British citizens:

Benin – eVisa / Visa on arrival for  30 days. Must have an international vaccination certificate.

Botswana – Visa free for 90 days.

Cape Verde – Visa not required 30 days. Online registration is needed prior to the arrival.

Comoros – Visa on arrival for 30 days visit.

Cote d’Ivoire – eVisa 3 months

Egypt – eVisa / Visa on arrival for 30 days

Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) – Visa free for 30 days

Ethiopia –  eVisa / Visa on arrival for 90 days visit. Visa on arrival is obtainable only at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport. EVisa holders must arrive via Addis Ababa Bole International Airport only.

Gambia – 28 Days Visa free

Kenya – Visa Free for 3 months.

Lesotho – Visa on Arrival.

Madagascar – eVisa / Visa on arrival max of 90 days

Mauritania – Visa on arrival. Available at Nouakchott–Oumtounsy International Airport.

Mauritius – Visa free for 60 days.

Morocco – Visa Free for 90 days.

Mozambique – Visa on arrival for 30 days, only valid if the point of origin doesn’t have any Mozambique embassy. Otherwise, securing visa prior to your travel is strongly encouraged.

Namibia – Visa free for 90 days.

Sao Tome and Principe – Visa free for 15 days.

Senegal – Visa free for 90 days.

Seychelles – Visa free for 90 days.

South Africa – Visa free for 90 days.

Tanzania – eVisa / Visa on arrival 3 months visit.

Togo – Visa on arrival for 7 days visit.

Tunisia – Visa Free for 3 months.

Uganda – eVisa required. The East Africa Tourist Visa issued by Kenya or Rwanda is also valid.

Zambia – 90 Days visa on arrival. 

Zimbabwe – Visa on arrival for 30 days.

Oceania

​The land down under!  Once a part of the British Empire during the reign of Queen Victoria.  Australia and Oceania region has been one of the top list of countries where British migrates to. 

Here are the list of the visa free countries for the UK citizens within the Oceania region:

Australia – eVisitor visa for 90 days visit. 

Fiji – Visa free for 4 months visit.

French Polynesia – Visa Free.

Kiribati – Visa Free for 30 days.

Marshall Islands – Visa on Arrival for 30 days.

Micronesia – Visa free up to 30 days visit.

New Caledonia – Visa free 

New Zealand – Visa free for 6 months.

Palau – Visa free for 30 days visit.

Papua New Guinea – Visa on arrival.

Samoa – Visa free for 60 days visit.

Solomon Islands – Visa free for 3 months visit.

Tonga – Visa free for 30 days visit.

Tuvalu – Visa free for 1 month visit.

Vanuatu – Visa free for 1 month visit.

North America

Occupying around 16% of the land mass of the world is North America.  

Some countries in this region used to be a part of the British Empire and one of the members of the Commonwealth countries. From the sunny beaches of the Caribbean, the rocky freezing mountains of Canada and up to the happiest place on Earth in the USA, this region is one of the most visited places by British tourists. 

Here is the list of visa-free countries in North America for British citizens:

Canada – Visa Free for 6 months. Electronic Travel Authorisation is required if arriving by air.

Greenland (Denmark) – Visa Free.

Central America

Belize – Visa free for 30 days.

Costa Rica – Visa free for 90 days visit.

El Salvador – Visa free for 90 days visit.

Honduras –  Visa free for 30 days visit.

Mexico – Visa free for 180 days visit.

Nicaragua – Visa free for 3 months visit.

Panama – Visa free if arriving by air and land. Visa required if arriving by sea except cruise lines.

Bahamas – 21 days visa free visit.

12% of the world’s land mass is the South American region. From the glorious ancient ruins of Machu Pichu up to the dense jungle of Amazon rainforest, this continent surely offers a great adventure and road trip for the British tourists.

Argentina – 90 Days Visa free.

Bolivia – 30 days Visa free.

Brazil – 90 days visa free.

Chile – 90 Days visa free.

Colombia – 90 days visa free.

Peru – 183 days visa free.

Suriname – eVisa / Tourist card on arrival for 90 days visit.

Venezuela – 90 Days visa free is arriving by air. Land and sea arrival visa is required prior to your travel.
